Stiles is sure this was a terrible idea. Absolutely terrible. He's shaking as he sits, waiting, in the man's office. After everything that happened...he can't do this. He should leave. No - he isn leaving. He's going to walk out that door and -

But Stiles is frozen by fear. His nails are digging into his palm, jaw clenched. Move. Get up. Get out before he shows up. I'm sorry, Dr. Hale, I couldn't make it. Yeah. Sounds plausible.

It was a Wrong Place, Wrong Time type of thing. Actually, it was the Wrong Drink. Worst part was, it wasn't even meant for him. But when the guy figured out he'd roofie'd the wrong kid, well - might as well get something out of it, right? And for some sick reason, that made him feel worse, that he wasn't the intended target. That he was some kind of second class, even for a sick fuck like that. From there, it was all downhill.

So he's stuck in that chair, dreading the moment his new therapist opened the door.

Which really shouldn't make Peter's skin crawl. He knows Stiles is not supposed to call him, only in emergency. And it's good that he's not calling. It means he's not that dependent on him, which is also a goal here.

But when Peter enters his office and Stiles is already sitting there he feels his chest release a kind of tension.

"Good afternoon Stiles. How are you?" Peter asks casually as he walks over to the boy.

"I didn't do it," Stiles blurts out, ducking his head. He couldn't help it. "I tried. I really tried. But I couldn't do it."

Peter's eyebrow rises a little as he sits down. He takes a deep breath.

"Alright, apparently no need for warming up today." he chuckles a little. "So, tell me how it went then. Why couldn't you do it?"

[totallynotrobin]

"I just couldn't. I panicked." Stiles sighs softly. "I don't want them to see how broken I am."

[burnedwolf]

Peter sighs, rubbing his cheek.

"How would they see it from a hug?" he asks quietly.

[totallynotrobin]

"If I asked for one," Stiles stares at his feet. "I don't know. I just feel so unstable sometimes. I don't want to unravel."

[burnedwolf]

"You can just go to them and do it." Peter offers softly, watching Stiles with a bit of a sad smile. "Maybe you need to if you want to truly take the next step, Stiles. It's not a bad thing to come undone."

Stiles shakes his head. "I don't come undone. I don't. I never have."

[burnedwolf]

"I can see how it could scare you." Peter offers, leaning forward a little. "It's fine to be scared, Stiles. But do you want to be scared in your whole life?"

"I've managed until now." Stiles sighs a little. "I just couldn't do it."

[burnedwolf]

"It's alright, Stiles. This doesn't have a time stamp on it, take as much time as you need." Peter smiles a little. "Try again next week, even if you feel weak. They are there to help you, just like me."

"I'm sorry." Stiles says nervously, glancing up at Peter. He…didn't want to disappoint.

Peter frowns, shaking his head.

"Stiles... you don't have to apologize for this. It wasn't a test you failed or anything. You're still progressing there is nothing to be ashamed of." he says.

[totallynotrobin]

"But you asked me to do it and I didn't." Stiles says seriously, eyes wide.

[burnedwolf]

Peter takes a minute to answer as he's staring back at the boy.

"It's a request and not and order, Stiles. I want you to do your homework because it helps you, and not because I want to order you around." he speaks softly.

[totallynotrobin]

"…I know. I know." It sounds like Stiles is repeating that more for his own benefit, as he sits back in his chair. "But you still - I just - uh - "

[burnedwolf]

"You still?" Peter asks, tilting his head to the side. "Stiles, you might keep things from your father and friends, but I really wish you'd tell me everything you think and feel."

[totallynotrobin]

"…I didn't want to disappoint you." Stiles admits. And it isn't because he's afraid of Peter being angry with him.

[burnedwolf]

"Alright." Peter starts a bit tense, as he's eying Stiles. It's a sign of dependency again and he's not sure how to welcome it. "Let's put it this way: Stiles, you won't disappoint me. This is your way of healing and there is no right or wrong."

[totallynotrobin]

"But I failed." Stiles repeats, as if that makes all the sense in the world. He failed, and if there's the withholding of a reward, he feels like there should be some type of punishment, too. So he's kind of punishing himself.

Peter smiles and reaches for Stiles' hand.

"Stiles, you did nothing wrong. You just have to try again." he assures him. He needs Stiles to know that he can't fail, even if there is reward for success. "It will be for your benefit."

[totallynotrobin]

"…you're really not mad?"

[burnedwolf]

"Of course I'm not." Peter nods, his eyes on Stiles. "I'm not here for that."

Stiles blushes and nods. Of course not. It felt good to hear Peter say it though.

Peter smiles at the boy, reaching out to pat his head gently.

"Are you alright?" he asks softly.
